A case of sheep strike in a neonatal lamb caused by Lucilia cuprina.

چکیده
There have been few reports of myiasis in domestic and pet animals in Nigeria although the presence of flies capable of causing the disease has been recorded in the country (LLOYD and DIPEOLU, 1974; DIPEOLU, 1975 a; 1977; IWUALA and OUALA, 1978). In the only available report on calliphorine myiasis of equids and bovines in Nigeria, MOHAMMED and HARTKE (1970) showed that Chrysomyia bezziana was responsible for wound myiasis in hooves of horses and horns of cattle. DIPEOLU (1975 b) showed the importance of dogs in the spread of furuncular myiasis caused by Cordylobia antbropophaga and DIPEOLU and OLUFARATI (1975) elucidated this aspect further during a report of human infection with the larvae of this fly. There has however been no report on the occurrence of myiasis in sheep in Nigeria. In the course of a survey on the causes of deaths in small ruminants, a case of myiasis in a neonatal lamb was encountered on a livestock farm on the outskirts of Ibadan, a town in the southwestern part of Nigeria. A comcomprehensive account is given of the field and post-mortem findings as well as the methods of identification of the fly responsible for the strike.

Efficacy of ivermectin jetting fluid against strike by some primary and secondary blowflies of sheep.
Merino sheep, which were hand jetted with ivermectin jetting fluid, and untreated sheep were challenged with larval implants of Lucilia cuprina, Lucilia sericata, Calliphora nociva and Chrysomya rufifacies at intervals of about 2 weeks from 6 to 16 weeks after treatment. Both Lucilia species produced strike rates of about 90% in untreated sheep; the respective rates were lower for Chr rufifacie...

Field studies were conducted in Australia to determine the efficacy of CLiK® Spray-On (50 g/L dicyclanil) in protecting unmulesed sheep from naturally occurring blowfly strike. Unmulesed sheep were treated on day 0 and inspected for flystrike at defined intervals thereafter. Any strikes detected were documented and resolved with a flystrike dressing. In the interest of animal welfare, untreated...
